VARTECH 2011- Uniting US & Latin American Resellers

This year’s VARTECH was housed in the amazingly beautiful Fontainebleau Miami Beach and turnout was a great success. VARS from throughout the US and Latin America had a common platform to blend in and network with Vendors like MMF POS and each other with one purpose in mind…seeking opportunities and new products to grow their business in this fast evolving technology driven market.

The buzz words in this year’s event were mobility & cloud computing. During a few chats I had with VARS, it was apparent that everyone is recognizing and embracing the massive consumer trends toward mobile technology which inevitably is manifesting in business environments.

When it comes to selecting your drawers, size does matter . . .

When it comes to selecting the appropriate “footprint ” of a cash drawer, size does matter. Ever wonder why there isn’t a set standard size of a cash drawer in the POS/Retail market? Every manufacturer seems to have his own ideas of what the size of a cash drawer has to be. Don’t get me wrong, most of the ones offered are somewhat close, but never the same. Measurements will vary by a few tenths of an inch in just about every dimension.

The cash drawer is usually the last peripheral shown any attention when configuring a POS/Retail system. They just don’t get no respect.

Just about everyone says, “a cash drawer is a cash drawer”. That is until it comes to placing the system in the confines of a custom counter warp or on that tight location on the shelf, located under a counter or when you’re trying to stack the monitor, printer and keyboard on the top surface of one.

Something for VARs to think about when upgrading a POS system…

Does the POS Software require a Serial (COM) connection, but the computer doesn’t have one?
